What we're looking for

  • Valid Tier 3 or Tier 4 MN teaching license (Elementary Ed, Middle School Math/Science, Secondary Science, STEM, etc)
  • Passion for STEM and student-centered learning
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment
  • Strong tech skills or willingness to learn (CAD, AR/VR, robotics, etc.)
  • Ability to connect with diverse learners and adapt to varied learning styles
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Qualifications

  • STEM licensure or background in STEM fields
  • Familiarity with MN State Standards and national STEM frameworks
  • Experience with educational technology and data analysis

Teaching & Curriculum

  1. Deliver engaging STEM lessons to 5th graders (4–6 in summer).
  2. Design and refine curriculum aligned with state/national
  3. standards.
  4. Integrate real-world STEM applications and career exploration.
  5. Analyze student data to improve instruction and outcomes.

Organizational & Program Support

In addition to teaching, instructors contribute to STARBASE’s broader mission through specialized roles and projects. All instructors are assigned one or more of the following:

  1. Volunteer Coordination – Engage and manage military and STEM professionals who support classroom activities and career exploration.
  2. Technology Support – Assist with classroom tech, software, and emerging tools like VR/AR and CAD.
  3. Social Media– Help share STARBASE’s impact through digital storytelling, outreach, and community engagement.
  4. Mentor Program Coordination – Support after-school mentoring initiatives (STARBASE 2.0) and student extension activities.

  5. Pre-Service Educator Engagement – Host and mentor future educators through field experiences and partnerships.

  6. STEM Kit Development – Contribute to the design, assembly, and distribution of STARBASE’s “Destination Mars” STEM kits, reaching 35,000+ students statewide.

  7. Program Innovation – Collaborate on new initiatives, grants, and partnerships that expand STARBASE’s reach and impact.

  8. Program Documentation – Create and revise student learning materials including student mission logs.

  9. Modifications and Instructional Supports – Review curriculum and develop modifications and supports to make materials accessible to all learners.
