Position Overview

The Maintenance Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing operations and maintenance of all educational facilities. The Maintenance Operations Supervisor provides technical direction related to the preventative maintenance, design, and installations of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) built-infrastructure, including providing engineering on-site support for emergency repairs, daily operations, and system commissioning/re-commissioning to ensure energy-efficient operations. 

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:

 

  • Provides leadership, technical guidance, and support to supervisors, staff engineers, and maintenance technicians in a variety of building trades and professional engineering disciplines; ensures best management practices are used within Facilities Operations, including effective communications, documentation, safety and regulatory compliance, and use of industry and division standard practices.
  • Establishes and recommends priorities for maintenance repair projects; implements preventive maintenance programs; plans for maintenance of LCPS facilities and coordinates maintenance schedule with building administrators; recommends general notices, regulations, and/or School Board policies to affect the safe and efficient operation of plant facilities.
  • Oversees the lifecycle management of all facilities MEP systems to include evaluation of existing systems, continued compliance with Health, Life and Safety and building codes, development of and oversees implementation of corrective actions.
  • Serves as LCPS official point of contact with Loudoun County Government for all building code compliances issues concerning MEP systems in the built infrastructure.
  • Advises senior staff on prioritization of all MEP related capital projects in the Capital Improvement Program and Capital Asset Preservation Program for repairs and renovations of the built infrastructure systems.
  • Participates in the planning, designing, and completion of school construction projects, including new buildings and renovations, by providing technical oversite for MEP systems through each stage, including guidance and direction to professional design engineers during initial planning and design reviews, construction change order requests during installation, and overseeing system commissioning and operations after project completion.

 

Qualifications

Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.

 

     Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university preferred

 

     Experience

  • Ten years demonstrated supervisory experience in MEP system construction, maintenance, and operations

 

     Licenses and Certifications 

  • Current valid driver’s license and ability to complete the DOT mandated Drug and Alcohol Suspicion Training for Supervisors within the first 90 days of employment

 

     Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and attention to detail regarding fiscal management, including developing and tracking capital project budgets
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional building trades including plumbing, electrical, and HVAC, in addition to expert knowledge of building automation systems design and programming, applicable building codes, local zoning and ordinance regulations, mechanical and electrical systems and their maintenance, operations, and related renewal costs
  • Ability to communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds, demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with administrators, teachers and support staff
  • Demonstrated professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community
