Job Description:
Jefferson-Houston PreK–8 IB School is seeking a dynamic and certified Middle School Spanish Teacher who will not only deliver engaging, standards-based instruction to students in grades 6–8 but will also collaborate with elementary staff to support Spanish language integration across grades PreK–5. The ideal candidate will bring energy, flexibility, and a passion for language learning, and will be committed to promoting cultural understanding in alignment with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality Spanish instruction to middle school students in alignment with ACPS curriculum
Collaborate with elementary grade-level teams to design and implement developmentally appropriate Spanish language experiences for younger learners
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities
Use data to plan, assess, and refine instruction and student learning outcomes
Create a culturally responsive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
Engage students in communicative language learning through speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities
Develop units that incorporate global perspectives and foster intercultural awareness
Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), school-based events, and ongoing professional development
Communicate effectively and consistently with families regarding student progress and classroom activities
Uphold ACPS and Jefferson-Houston’s mission, vision, and expectations for equity and academic excellence
Qualifications:
Valid Virginia Teaching License with endorsement in Spanish (PreK–12 or Middle Education)
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Education, or related field (Master’s degree preferred)
Demonstrated proficiency in Spanish and effective language instruction practices
Experience teaching at both middle and/or elementary levels preferred
Knowledge of or willingness to learn the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework
Commitment to equity, student-centered practices, and culturally responsive teaching
Preferred Skills:
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Ability to collaborate across grade levels and content areas
Familiarity with digital tools for instruction (e.g., Google Suite, Canvas, language learning apps)
Passion for working with a diverse student population in an urban school setting
