Job Overview
The mission of the Academies of Loudoun is to empower students to explore, research, collaborate, innovate, and to make meaningful contributions to the world in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).  The Academies of Loudoun is comprised of three academies:

  • Academy of Engineering & Technology (AET)
  • Academy of Science (AOS)
  • Monroe Advanced Technical Academy (MATA)

Teachers at the Academies of Loudoun must be ready to deliver advanced academic content and quality instruction to students who have made a commitment to a challenging STEM program.  They should also be willing to continually plan and develop curriculum in a highly collaborative environment.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Teaches, supervises, advises, and evaluates students in the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) courses.
  • Demonstrates content expertise and experience required to plan, teach, and implement advanced levels of nursing curriculum; interest and willingness to help students learn through clinical activities. 
  • Demonstrates leadership and interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate on a daily basis with other members of the team to plan and implement appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and curricular and clinical activities.
  • Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and maintains appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for LCPS, Virginia Board of Nursing, and individual reporting purposes. 
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with administration, colleagues, students and parents.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to observe, provide support and coach other CNA teachers, and collaborate with administration to provide input on budgeting, hiring and evaluations.
  • Pursues professional growth through an ongoing program of reading and research, attendance at workshops, seminars, and conferences, and/or completing advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
  • Collaborates with other professionals (counselors, librarians, etc.) to carry out schoolwide instructional or related activities as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

 

Qualifications
Must have or be eligible for Virginia teaching license with Nursing endorsement.  Must hold or be eligible to hold a Registered Nursing license in Virginia.  Must have a minimum of 2 years experience as a registered nurse within the past 5 years, and have a minimum of one year in the provision of long-term care facilities (such experiences may include, but not be limited to, employment in a nurse aide education program or employment in or supervision of nursing students in a nursing facility or unit, geriatrics department, chronic care hospital, home care or other long-term care setting).  Hold current healthcare provider CPR and immunizations to practice in a hospital setting.

 

 

Passion for STEM education and genuine appreciation for the mission of the Academies of Loudoun; knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty(ies) to which assigned; knowledge of adolescent growth and development; knowledge of Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) curriculum related to assignments and School Division mission, goals, and organization; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning; ability to plan and implement lessons based on Division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents; skilled in oral and written communications; strong collaborative, communication, and presentation skills.

The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift,
carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
