Job Overview

The Student Activities and Engagement Coordinator is responsible for working directly with the Principal to support and sustain a safe and supportive school environment that is culturally-responsive, identity-affirming, and inclusive through scheduling, planning, nurturing, and supporting student activities and student connections to the school community.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:

  • Assists the Principal in supporting and nurturing a school climate that provides opportunity and access for student connections to the school community during the academic day as well as through co-curricular, extra-curricular, and student activities.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, students, parents, and the community to promote and support student learning and engagement.
  • Assists with coordinating remediation and credit recovery efforts such as scheduling students with staff, tracking student participation in remediation activities, working with content teachers to ensure student course engagement and progression, and monitoring success of the credit recovery and remediation programs.
  • Assists with tracking and addressing chronic student absenteeism.
  • Conferences with students over lack of classroom engagement resulting in tardies of classroom referrals.
  • Provides and/or supports opportunities for student voice, input, and feedback to promote a school environment that is welcoming, culturally responsive, identity affirming, inclusive, and safe.
  • Assesses and analyzes data to inform opportunities and areas of growth regarding school climate and culture.
  • Assists and advises the Principal in matters relating to the supervision of co-curricular, extra-curricular, and student activities.
  • Supervises the fiscal management for all student activities and programs under the direction of the Principal.
  • Prepares and publicizes a supervisory schedule for student activities and building use.
  • Ensures that all student activities bookkeeping and finance expectations are followed.
  • Compiles fund-raising activities into an approved format to be forwarded to the Principal for approval.
  • Coordinates building use and schedules building use within the school and community.
  • Supports students and sponsors with creating and sustaining co-curricular, extra-curricular and other student activities.
  • Maintains, publicizes, and communicates events on the activity calendar.
  • Supports students and sponsors with compliance of LCPS policies and regulations pertaining to student activities, field trips, and transportation.
  • Serves on committees as directed by the Principal.
  • Participates in LCPS professional learning as appropriate.

Qualifications

Below are the qualifications for this position:

  • Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Skilled in the use of multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications including excellent human relations skills.
  • Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and to meet deadlines
  • Possesses strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds

The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
