POSITION: Paraeducator I/II Summer Special Education ESY Program

                   Internal Applicants Only (temporary/hourly assignment)

 

ASSIGNMENT(S): Multiple assignments available supporting the following programs: 

 

Summer ESY Program –Site to be determined 

Summer Regional Programs -Middle School Site: Leonardtown Middle School (SAIL)  

 

REPORTS TO: Grant/Program Administrator/Special Education Supervisor

 

NATURE OF WORK:

All summer school positions are temporary.  The Summer School Paraeducator must be able to work collaboratively with staff and work independently to support the instructional goals of the students and the class in general.  Paraeducators may be asked to escort students, maintain a safe and orderly environment, and assist students and staff with instructional activities, materials, projects, and organization.

  • Ability to modify the designed curriculum as necessary

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meets regularly with the teacher at a designated time for planning and evaluating student's progress  
  • Assists in developing learning activities with the teacher  
  • Assists in guiding students in working and playing with others, including online and virtual environments
  • Escorts and assists students, as necessary  
  • Assists in the supervision of students on school grounds and school-related activities
  • Prepares, under the direction of the teacher, appropriate learning activities, stations, and materials  
  • Reinforces learning activities with appropriate audio-visual aids and other materials 
  • Assists teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas  
  • Assists in activities planned for and with parents
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service training sessions
  • Maintains confidentiality of student records and protected information
  • Assists with the areas of adaptive skills that may include toileting, feeding, dressing, self-help, and positioning in adaptive equipment/devices  
  • Assists students with physical disabilities in positioning, movement, and skills of daily living needs
  • Implements instructional/behavioral plans and protocols in accordance with the student’s Individualized Education Program/Individual and Family Service Plan
  • Collects data on academic/behavioral programs as directed by the special education teacher and school-based/county-based administrators.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associate degree or minimum of 48-semester college credits or Paraprofessional test successful completion

Preferred

  • Related college courses or training
  • Experience working with children

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 

This is a temporary/hourly position for the course of the summer, not to exceed September 1 of each fiscal year. There is no guarantee of continuation in this position from one fiscal year to the next.

 

SALARY: Current paraeducators with SMCPS shall be paid their hourly rate of pay

 

PROJECTED DATES: In addition to the dates indicated below, compensation may be provided for necessary professional development, planning, recordkeeping, staffing, and/or other programmatic needs.

 

Summer Learning Regional Program –

For our Intensive needs camp -

Dates: June 30-Aug 1 (5 weeks, Mon-Thurs, 4th of July off)

Staff Hours will be 7:30-1:00 for intensive needs

ESY dates will also be the same as the camps. Staff hours are flexible based on the schedule developed with families.
