POSITION: Site Leader Special Education Summer ESY Program Grant-Funded - INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

LOCATION: Summer Learning Regional Program ESY – Middle School Site: Leonardtown Middle School (SAIL) 

 

REPORTS TO: Grant/Program Administrator/Special Education Supervisor

 

NATURE OF WORK:

All summer positions are temporary.  The Summer ESY Program Site Leader is a professional position with primary responsibility to coordinate and oversee specific summer school programs and/or summer school locations throughout SMCPS.  The Site Leader is tasked with management of summer school staff, students, and parents/guardians.

  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Possess excellent time management skills and the ability to take initiative and make decisions within assigned responsibility in a challenging, fast-paced professional environment and be flexible in work responsibilities and hours
  • Possess knowledge of the programs, policies, and procedures of the St. Mary’s County Public Schools
  • Possess knowledge of effective practices in administering school enrichment programs

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities may differ depending on the program and/or school location assigned.  

  • Manages and coordinates student registration across feeder buildings (as appropriate)
  • Manages student records
  • Plans and coordinates program-related activities
  • Develops summer activities at assigned elementary/middle school, including, but not limited to, reading activities, STEM/STEAM, and Maker Space opportunities
  • Facilitates and maintains communication with staff, students, and parents/guardians
  • Coordinates with student’s home-school staff (counselors/administrators) to ensure adequate academic progress is being achieved
  • Maintains program schedule and secures substitutes for staff when absences occur and if needed
  • Maintains a safe and orderly environment for staff, students, and parents/guardians
  • Effectively manages student behavior
  • Maintains confidentiality of student records and personal information
  • Provides motivation and encouragement to students, parents/guardians, and staff
  • Completes all required reports for federal, state, local, and/or grant requirements
  • Gathers, reviews, approves, tracks and submits staff timesheets to payroll in a timely manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Advanced Professional Certificate issued by MSDE
  • Minimum one (1) year of successful experience working with students in a similar setting

Preferred:

  • Administrator I endorsement

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 

This is a temporary/hourly position for the course of the summer, not to exceed September 1 of each fiscal year. There is no guarantee of continuation in this position from one fiscal year to the next.

 

SALARY: The rate of pay for staff holding MSDE certification position is $40/per hour.

 

PROJECTED DATES AND HOURS: (In addition to the dates indicated below, compensation may be provided for necessary professional development, planning, recordkeeping, staffing, and/or other programmatic needs.)

 

For our Intensive needs camp -

Dates: June 30-Aug 1 (5 weeks, Mon-Thurs, 4th of July off)

Staff Hours will be 7:30-1:00 for intensive needs
