Seeking a dynamic and passionate Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher to join Alexandria City Public Schools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in family and consumer sciences education and a commitment to fostering students' personal, academic, and career development.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Education:  Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

 

Certificates & Licenses:  

  • Valid Virginia Department of Education license required with endorsement in Culinary Arts or Family and Consumer Science area, or eligibility to obtain one.
  • ServSafe and Food Handling Certification preferred.

Other Qualifications

  • Must have at least two years of experience in the culinary arts area.
  • Must have the knowledge and experience to systematically plan, execute and evaluate individual and group instruction.
  • Must be able to organize and manage appropriate classroom instruction.
  • Must possess excellent organizational, communications, public relations and planning skills.
  • The ability to work independently and accomplish established instructional objectives during the school year is essential.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships and work in a collaborative manner with administrators, supervisors, co-workers and parents.
  • Must be knowledgeable of innovative, nontraditional teaching strategies that have proven successful with students from diverse backgrounds performing at different academic levels.
  • Some experience with Microsoft Office, online learning management software, Internet and Intranet is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging curriculum aligned with Virginia state standards for Family and Consumer Sciences at the high school level.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports students' individual growth and development.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on activities, labs, and technology, to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Foster students' leadership skills through participation in school-based or virtual enterprises, job shadowing, internships, cooperative education, and/or the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).
  • Provide opportunities for students to explore personal and career goals, financial management, clothing maintenance, food preparation, positive relationships, and self-assessment.
  • Integrate mathematics, science, English, social sciences, fine arts, and technology into Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular connections and enhance student learning experiences.
  • Assess student progress and provide timely feedback to support their academic growth and achievement.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in family and consumer sciences education.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders to support students' success in the classroom and beyond.

Clearances:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.

Public Health Compliance

  • Must follow safety and health protocols
