Description:  

To provide assistive technology (AT) services to students with disabilities and facilitate the alternative curriculum in order that they may access and benefit from their program of education.



Job Summary:  

1. Complete Assistive Technology evaluations within specified time frames.

 

2. Assume responsibility for growth in student learning.

 

a. Develop and meet two annual goals which positively affect student achievement through job responsibilities.

 

3. Work collaboratively with team members, parents, and administration to ensure the Assistive Technology needs are met.

 

4. Prepare written requisitions for the purchase of specialized equipment augmentative communication systems and/or computers, 

 

    hardware or specialized software as appropriate.

 

5. Assess and make recommendations regarding the selection, modification and implementation of AT devices and services to allow 

 

    students to access and benefit from their program of specialized instruction.

 

6. Interpret, integrate, and synthesize evaluative information to make recommendations for Assistive Technology interventions and services 

 

    for the purpose

 

7. Make recommendations regarding the purchase, repair and replacement of AT devices.

 

8. Assist and/or provide in-service training in federal and state mandated bulletins, policies, and procedures.

 

9. Provide direct and indirect AT services as specific on students’ IEPs.

 

10. Coordinate the delivery of AT services with classroom teachers, special education staff and other providers to ensure.

 

11. Maintain an accurate record of services provided.

 

12. Serve as the technology inventory liaison for all Special Education equipment.

 

13. Keep an inventory of all Special Education technology devices.

 

14. Provide training to special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and others as appropriate, in assisting students in the appropriate use 

 

    and maintenance of AT devices.

 

15. Consult and collaborate with medical and other community providers, as appropriate.

 

16. Participate, as needed, in individualized Education Plans for students who qualify for AT supports for the purpose of developing 

 

    appropriate IEPs and attend meetings as necessary.

 

17. Assist Special Education Supervisor to support, implement, and ensure application of district initiatives.

 

18. Select, adapt, and conduct appropriate evaluations to assess communication across all domains for the purpose of making 

 

    recommendations to increase student communication skills.

 

19. Provide technology and assistance to behavior and instructional homebound students.

 

20. Assist in conducting in-depth monitoring reviews of the special education program.

 

21. Complete and submit all required evaluation documents in a timely manner to the evaluation coordinator.

 

22. Provide support to special education teachers in the implementation of district-chosen alternate curriculum.

 

23. Analyze student historical data (i.e. pre-and post-assessments and alignment to IEP goals) and teacher log-in data in the district-chosen alternate curriculum.

 

24. Meet monthly with regional alternate curriculum administrators

 

25. Provide professional development on all aspects of alternate curriculum (such as Unique).

 

26. Conduct classroom observations to ensure implementation of alternate curriculum.

 

27. Coach teachers on the alternate curriculum using a coaching cycle model.

 

28. Coordinate records release for incoming students.




Qualifications: Holds a Louisiana Special Education Certificate: Experience with Special Education students preferred; Specific skills related to proficient use of technology systems, computers and electronic communication devices and the ability to develop, implement, and monitor speech, language, and communication programming and support for individuals and groups.

8. Report to the St. Martin Parish School Board as needed or directed.

 

9. Keep abreast professionally by attending local, regional, state, or national meetings and/or staff development that address area(s) of  

 

    responsibility as directed by the supervisor.

 

10. Complete and submit all forms, reports, documentation, and training by required dates and in accordance with district policies and 

 

    procedures.

 

11. Remain open to suggestions and innovative ideas; receive and apply feedback.

 

12. Demonstrate competence in areas of responsibility.

 

13. Exert every effort to constructively involve stakeholders in all professional settings.

 

14. Communicate appropriately and work effectively with all populations.

 

15. Exhibit desirable qualities such as commitment to job responsibilities, enthusiasm, cooperation, sense of humor, creativity, tact, positive

16. Follow the specific instructional requirements established by the School Board (LEA), State Department of Education (SDE), the State 

 

    Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (SBESE), and/or Federal regulations and guidelines established by each.

 

17. Perform any duty, not specifically assigned, as deemed necessary by the assigning authority in order to maintain continuity where 

 

    needed.
